Crochet Hook size G for working base of bag
Gauge: 6 stitches and 6 rows to the inch over patter
Misc: You will also need a tapestry needle, stitch markers and a button of your choice.
(I used a fancy 1 ¼ inch button. If you use a different size button, you may have to adjust the size of the closing loop.)

The bag is worked from the bottom up continuously, at no time is the cord cut. The base is crochet in the round, stitches are picked up around the base and the body of the bag is knitted. The stitches are bound off and two rows of crochet are worked. For the handles, three loops are picked up, 3-stitch I-cord worked for about 18 inches (150 rows) and then attached to the bag. A loop is worked and a button attached for a closure.

With MC crochet cast on 6 stitches. Join with a slip stitch, chain one.
Work all single crochet stitches in the back loop of the stitch.
Finish all rounds by joining with a slip stitch and begin all rounds with a chain one.
Round 1: 2 sc in every sc. (12 stitches)
Round 2: (2 sc in 1st sc, one sc in next sc), 6 times. (18 stitches)
Round 3: (2 sc in 1st sc, one sc in 2nd and 3rd sc), 6 times. (24 stitches)
Round 4: (2 sc in 1st sc, one sc in 2nd, 3rd and 4th sc), 6 times. (30 stitches)
Continue increasing until: (2 sc in first sc, one sc in following 18 sc), 6 times. (120 stitches)
With knitting needle pick up 120 loops around the base of the bag, place marker.
Begin working from Row 1 of chart. Chart repeats 5 times around.

After all rows from chart are done, bind off all stitches and work 2 rounds of single crochet.
Place markers every 30 stitches. You should have one loop on the crochet hook.
Pick up two loops from the bag edge and work 3 stitch I-cord for about 18 inches (150 rows).
Attach the I-cord on the three stitches right after the 1st marker to the left.
Pick up 3 loops on the 3 stitches following the 3rd marker and make another handle attaching it as before.
Attach button at center front. On center back, pick up a loop and make a 20 stitch chain. Draw the loop through the bag edge stitch next to it (attaching the chain) and slip stitch your way back to the beginning of the chain. Cut cord, weave in all ends.
